Jamaica leads Dominica 2-0 at Halftime in World Cup qualifier
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz were leading Dominica 2-0 at halftime in their Concacaf World Cup second-round Group E game at Windsor Park, Roseau, on Sunday.
Shamar Nicholson scored his 18th goal for Jamaica in his 49th appearance, giving Jamaica the lead in the 30th minute. Teenager Kaheim Dixon scored his first official goal just before the halftime break to double the lead.
The Jamaicans, who made five changes to the starting team that beat the Dominican Republic on Thursday in Kingston, dominated the game and could have led by a wider margin, but the team wasted a few scoring chances, with Dixon responsible for a couple.
Nicholson’s header in the 23rd minute was well saved by goalkeeper Glenson Prince, and Dixon rolled a ball across the wide open goal minutes later.
Nicholson finally broke the deadlock when he stretched out a boot to poke a ball from Greg Leigh past Prince in the 30th minute.
Dixon did well to shake off a defender on the left side, turned towards the goal, and stroked the ball past Prince at his near right post and into the goal in the 42nd minute.
