Reggae Rovers head into quarterfinals of int’l soccer tournament
CARY NORTH CAROLINA, United States — The Reggae Rovers soccer team will face off against the defending champions Newton Pride FC in the quarterfinal round of The Soccer Tournament (TST) on Saturday evening in Cary North Carolina, United States.
They are riding high from their latest 5-1 win against the English professional side, Wrexham Red Dragons.
The TST is a World Cup-style tournament consisting of group plan and single elimination knockout rounds in a quest for $1 million.
Forty-eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams are competing in this annual event which kicked off June 3 and will run until June 11.
The Reggae Rovers consist of a team of players from all over the Caribbean, including Damario Philips from Jamaica National team and Owayne Gordon from Montego Bay Football Club.
Supreme Ventures, Fintech and Ria are major sponsors of the Reggae Rovers.
Gary Peart, chairman of Supreme Ventures Limited, says the Reggae Rovers have made Jamaica very proud.
“We are extremely proud of the achievements of the Reggae Rovers. They certainly embody the spirit of the Caribbean and represent us well in unity, skill and resilience. The team are true ambassadors,” Peart said.
Pat McAfee’s CONCAFA SC lost 4-1 in the opening round of the tournament to Reggae Rovers on June 5, 2024. The match was a part of the TST Group B.
Currently, Reggae Rovers rank first.
Tickets for the event, which is being held at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cary, are still on sale. However, all matches will be streamed live for UK supporters via https://tstlive.thetournament.com/ and aired on ESPN Plus at 8:30 pm.
