Woman allegedly found with five bullets at airport prepares for trial
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A woman who was reportedly held with ammunition at Sangster International Airport has professed her innocence and is now awaiting the opportunity to defend herself in
court.
Kerine Housing, 55, of Islington, St Mary, appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition. She is being represented by attorney-at-law Christopher Hibbert.
During the hearing, the clerk informed the court that the prosecution was waiting for the ballistic report and proposed a July 12 mention date.
Presiding judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce then asked the defence attorney if he intended to wait until that date for the disclosure of relevant documents for the case, including the certificate, or if he would rather have partial disclosure.
In response, the attorney informed the judge that he had received some disclosure and would wait until that date to see if the file contained any additional material.
Grant-Pryce then set the matter for mention on July 12 and extended Housing’s bail.
According to court documents, the incident allegedly occurred on April 12 while Housing was in the process of checking in for a flight to the United States.
The allegations are that during security screening she was instructed to remove a plastic bag from her pocket and place it in the X-ray bin. The bag was reportedly found to contain five 5.38 cartridges. The police were alerted, and Housing was arrested and charged.
