Atomica records win 16 at Caymanas in Eros Trophy
Atomica chalked up her 16th career victory at Caymanas Park after she romped to victory in the Eros Trophy over seven furlongs on Saturday. Ridden by former champion jockey Omar Walker, Atomica, the reigning Horse of the Year, won by three-quarters of a length in a time of 1:25.1. She finished ahead of Is That A Fact with leading rider Tevin Foster in the saddle, while third place went to Mamma Mia with jockey Jordan Barrett.
Atomica, a two-time Horse of the Year owned by Don Wehby, has earned over $25 million in stakes earnings from her 21 starts. Gary Subratie, trainer of
Atomica and winner of the 2021 Jamaica Derby, expressed his satisfaction with her performance on Saturday.
“Her performance was good, I mean, it was a sprint race and I don’t think she is a sprinter, but she showed signs that she can go with them,” said Subratie. “The margin of victory wasn’t that good, but she was relaxed, so that is why it was so close at the end,” he said.
