Reggae Boyz player ratings from 1-0 win vs Dom Rep
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz defeated Dominican Republic 1-0 in their opening game of Concacaf World Cup qualifying at the National Stadium in Kingston on Thursday. The Jamaica Observer’s digital sports coordinator, Rachid Parchment, was at ‘The Office’. Here are his player ratings for the game.
Jahmali Waite – 6/10 – Not called into action much but useful in the rare moments needed.
Greg Leigh – 6.5/10 – Wasn’t under much duress from the opponents but was good linking up and with Renaldo Cephas on the left.
Michael Hector – 6/10 – Little to do but was fine when needed.
Tayvon Gray – 6/10 – Did nothing of note but no issues.
Di’Shon Bernard – 6.5/10 – Wasn’t under much pressure from Dominican Republic but, like his defensive teammates, was fine when needed to be.
Daniel Johnson -7/10- No longer a regular starter but still showing value to the team when called on. Solid in the tackle and good passes forward.
Damion Lowe – 7/10 – Made important tackles and interceptions. Looked decent going forward despite off shooting. Coming into his own as a deep lying midfielder.
Bobby Reid – 6/10- Has had many better days. Missed a penalty but also couldn’t find fluency on the right of attack.
Renaldo Cephas – 6/10- This rating is this high because he provided the crucial assist and also won a penalty. That assist was likely because he was afraid to take the shot himself. Questionable decision making and not a lot he tried worked out.
Shamar Nicholson – 7/10 – Tried and showed energy to get on the ball but could’ve done with better service throughout the game. Took his goal well.
Michail Antonio – 6.5/10 – Tried to make things happen and put in an industrious shift. Found himself in deep positions for much of the game but that meant Jamaica lacked something in the box. He needs more goals.
Karoy Anderson -6.5/10 – Second half sub who won good tackles and had good passes. Sound performance.
Richard King – 6/10 – Fine when he came on. Made good tackles.
Deshane Beckford – 5/10 – Ineffectual
Kaheim Dixon – 6/10- Intelligent movement and tried to make something happen in the final third.
Kevon Lambert – N/A – Not enough time on pitch to be given an objective rating
Heimir Hallgrímsson – 5/10 – Forced to rotate squad based on absences but still should’ve have produced a better display against this opposition, regardless. The team looked too comfortable sitting on only a one goal lead.
