Queen’s High receives donation from Atlanta alumni
The Queen’s High School for Girls has benefited from donations totaling over US$2,000 made by the Queen’s Alumnae Atlanta Chapter (QAAC), a 501c3, tax-exempt organisation supporting the school for over 20 years.
The renowned all-girls institution received a donation of US $1,000 towards supporting the school’s Welfare Fund which assists students in need with cash towards lunch, bus fares and other essentials.
Meanwhile, a generous contribution from an individual past student of US$610 was also donated toward the purchase of a washer/dryer for the school’s Sick Bay, as well as a donation of US$400 towards a refrigerator for the Home Economics Department.
Commenting on the donations, president of the Alumnae Atlanta Chapter, Heather Potter said the organisation was committed to supporting the school and was also on board with raising funds for major projects currently on stream.
“This year is the 70th anniversary of Queen’s and several projects are being put in motion throughout the year and beyond including building an auditorium and providing a new school bus. We in Atlanta are holding a number of fundraisers to also do our part in bring those critical initiatives to fruition,” she noted.
Potter added that from June 28 to 30 of this year, the Queen’s Alumnae Atlanta Chapter will partner with the organisers of the Caribbean Film Festival to hold the festival this year, with some of the proceeds benefiting the school in Jamaica.
