Teacher’s salary not adding up
Dear Claudienne,
I was employed at a secondary school from September 1, 2022 until my resignation on August 31, 2023. During my tenure, all relevant documents were submitted to the Region 6 office of the Ministry of Education, including my degree, which would allow me to receive a trained graduate salary instead of the pretrained pay. However, up until September 2023 (my last payment) I still received a pretrained salary.
I visited the Region 6 office of the ministry in Old Harbour, St Catherine, on September 8, 2023 for clarification and was told by the customer service representative to visit the Teachers Financial Services office in Kingston.
A representative at the Teachers Financial Services office told me that they had not received salary advice from the Region 6 office, hence the non-payment of my correct salary. The representative said that the salary advice would have informed them that I should receive the trained graduate pay.
There has been a long delay in the Region 6 office submitting the information that the Teachers Financial Services office requested from them via e-mail to enable my salary to be upgraded. I tried calling the office but to no avail.
I was finally able to make contact with the Region 6 officer in November of 2023 and in mid-December 2023 when I called to check on the progress she said that she would work on calculating my retroactive salary as soon as she could locate my documents.
Subsequent to that, I e-mailed her on January 22, 2024 to check on the progress. However, I am yet to receive a response.
To this day I have not received my retroactive salary.
Please help.
