Shericka Jackson rebounds to win in Stockholm
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson rebounded from Thursday’s fifth place finish in Oslo to run a season’s best 22.69 seconds (-2.0m/s) to win the women’s 200m at the BAUHAUS-Galan Diamond League meet at Olympic Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden.
Jackson admitted in a press conference on Saturday that she was “hurt” by the poor performance and made up with an improved performance. She led off the curve and cruised home.
Sweden’s Julia Hendriksson ran a personal best 22.89 seconds for second while Great Britain’s Amy Hunt was third with 22.92 seconds.
There were also second place finishes for Rushell Clayton in the women’s 400m hurdles and Shanieka Ricketts in the women’s triple jump events.
Clayton ran 53.78 seconds to finish behind Holland’s Femke Bol who opened her hurdles season with 53.07 seconds, putting her second best behind American world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone who ran 52.07 seconds to win at the Ed Moses Classic in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday.
Andrenette Knight who got off to a fast start, was third in a season’s best 54.62 seconds and Janieve Russell fourth in 54.99 seconds, also her best so far this season.
Ricketts, who passed up her final jump, had a best mark of 14.40m (-1.0m/s) as Cuba’s Leyanis Perez Hernandez won back-to-back meets with 14.67m (1.4m/s) and Thea Lafond of Dominica was third with 14.26m (-1.0m/s).
Former Commonwealth Games champion Kimberly Williams was ninth with 13.48m (-0.7m/s).
Meanwhile, Ryiem Forde was fourth in the men’s 100m, running 10.22 (-1.0m/s) as Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme won in 10.16 seconds ahead of American Kyree King- 10.18 seconds and Italy’s Chituru Ali- 10.19 seconds.
Natasha Morrison was seventh in the women’s 100m in 11.41 seconds (-0.8m/s) behind Gina Miriam Bass Bittaye of Gambia who won in 11.15 seconds, Marie-Josee Ta-Lou-Smith of the Ivory Coast was second in 11.16 seconds and American Brittany Brown third with a season’s best 11.18 seconds.
Danniel Thomas-Dodd was fifth in the women’s shot put, throwing 18.77m with World Champion Chase Jackson winning with 20.00m, just beating Canada’s Sarah Mitton- 19.98m with Holland’s Jessica Schilder third with 19.08m.
Fedrick Dacres placed sixth in the men’s discus throw with a best of 64.21m which came in the first round as world record holder Myklos Alekna- Lithuania threw 68.64m to win. Daniel Stahl of Sweden was second with 66.10m and Australia’s Matthew Denny third with 65.94m.
