General Accident fuels Dunrobin Primary School’s vision
DUNROBIN Primary School’s Principal Sacheel Grant Henry has a clear vision for the school currently in her charge — the 16-year educator longs for the popular institution to boast of being a standard-bearer for primary education.
The school welcomed several corporate and non-profit groups to share with children the joys of reading on May 7, as Read Across Jamaica Day got underway.
Though well supported, for Grant Henry a notable, long-standing partner for the national initiative has been General Accident Insurance Company (GENAC).
The relationship, which began over five years ago while Grant Henry was then principal of Drew’s Avenue Primary, continues to grow in strength.
“The relationship started at my previous school, and because they were such great team players at GENAC/ AutoSmart I thought it necessary to invite them to come on board with us at Dunrobin Primary School. There was no hesitation towards that so the truth is, in terms of the relationship between us and GENAC/AutoSmart, it has become somewhat of a love relationship — almost a complete marriage — especially as it relates to Read Across Jamaica Day,” Grant Henry explained.
“GENAC/AutoSmart is one of the groups that we can depend on; and even if we don’t send an invitation, in fact, they reach out to us at Dunrobin Primary School. We can always count on a full contingent of persons coming over to Dunrobin,“ Grant Henry continued.
Leading the charge for educational initiatives is General Accident Insurance Company Managing Director Sharon Donaldson.
“One of our key pillar areas of community support is education, and Dunrobin has been one of our adopted schools for over three years,” Donaldson said. “We understand the power of reading and engaging with children, and the lasting impact it can have on their lives. In our time together we’ve built strong relationships with students and staff at Dunrobin Primary, and we have every intention of expanding our support to other areas of need.”
In another show of exemplary stewardship, Read Across Jamaica Day was made an even more whimsical experience as students and teachers had the opportunity to dress as their favourite book characters.
“This is the brainchild of one of our teachers, Miss Rochelle Panton, she came to me with the idea. You may have realised that it’s not just the children, but a few teachers, too, are dressed in the costume. The idea is for persons to select their favourite story character, and dress like the person to come to school and the children love it,” Grant Henry shared.
Though her eyes were originally set on being a lawyer, Grant Henry cherishes her role as a principal. Now she is focused on her young ladies and gentlemen.
“My vision for Dunrobin Primary School is to maintain it as a standard brand in primary education, to get it to a place where it is spoken of at all times,” Grant Henry shared.
