Corinaldi Ave, Flanker clash in VM U13 semis
TUCKER, St James — Defending champions Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Flanker Primary are to meet in a repeat of last year’s final of the St James Football Association/Victoria Mutual Foundation Under-13 final when they clash in the semi-finals at Wespow Park.
Kick-off is set for 10:00 am on Friday.
Both teams are coming off good wins in the quarter-finals.
The victor will meet the winner of the other semi-final between former champions Barracks Road Primary and Granville Primary. That encounter will be the second game of the double header.
Corinaldi Avenue, Flanker and Barracks Road are returning to the semi-finals, while Granville Primary are making their return after missing out last year.
In last year’s final, Corinaldi Avenue edged Flanker 1-0 to complete a perfect season. They are on course for back-to-back seasons without a loss.
Corinaldi Avenue Primary edged Catherine Hall Primary 2-1 in their quarter-final on Monday during which they conceded their first goal of the season.
Flanker Primary hammered Mount Salem Primary 5-0 in their quarter-final contest on Tuesday.
The second game is expected to be close with Barracks Road Primary seeking to go at least one step further than last year after they were beaten in the semi-finals.
Barracks Road came from a goal down to beat Chetwood Primary 2-1 on Monday, while Granville Primary handed Howard Cooke Primary their first loss of the season, edging them out in a penalty shoot-out after the teams had ended 1-1 in regulation time.
