Lawyer requests boarding pass of flight attendant in $11 million cocaine case
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The defence attorney for a female flight attendant, who was arrested after $11 million worth of cocaine was allegedly discovered in her luggage, has requested that her boarding pass be submitted as evidence.
Michelle Virgo, a 44-year-old dual citizen with addresses in Jamaica and the United States, is charged with possession of, dealing in, attempting to export, and conspiracy to export cocaine.
The trial was unable to begin on Wednesday because her attorney, Martyn Thomas, expressed a desire to present her boarding pass as evidence.
“We were trying to accommodate your matter. Your counsel has indicated that as part of your defence, he is requesting your boarding pass, so the matter will be adjourned today,” presiding judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce told the defendant before adjourning the case until July 3.
Virgo’s bail was extended until that date.
According to the allegations, on June 6, 2023 Virgo was preparing to board a JetBlue flight bound for New York from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.
During a routine security check, three pounds of cocaine, which is said to have a street value of US$75,000 (J$11.5 million) was reportedly found in a false compartment in her suitcase.
Under caution, Virgo allegedly said, “Cocaine? This is unbelievable.”
She was later charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
