Two taken into custody as police seize guns in Westmoreland
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Two people are now in police custody following the seizure of two illegal firearms during a targeted operation in the Geneva District of Westmoreland on Tuesday.
The identities of the two individuals have not yet been revealed.
According to Superintendent of Police Othneil Dobson, the operation, which took place between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm, aimed to locate known violence producers in the area.
Reports are that during the search of the premises, the team discovered two illegal firearms — one of them containing 15 9mm rounds, while the other was found without a magazine.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address violent crime and the proliferation of illegal firearms in the parish of Westmoreland.
“The Westmoreland police continues to work assiduously to rid the division of gangs, gangsters and war incidents of crime. We are urging the citizens to cooperate with the police as we continue to work in partnership to make this division a safer place for us all,” Dobson said.
