Restaurants of Jamaica ends Child Month with ‘Pizza and Paint’ at Nest Children’s Home
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Child Month 2024 has been an active one for quick-service food provider Restaurants of Jamaica Limited (ROJ), with its brands KFC and Pizza Hut extending service and joy to youngsters at various schools across the island.
In line with the mission of Labour Day, ROJ concluded its activities for the month with its transformative “Pizza and Paint” project at the Salvation Army Nest Children’s Home on May 23, where ROJ has been a long-standing partner and supporter.
The recent transformation executed by the ROJ team included replacing the children’s blackboard, painting benches and tables, installing a gazebo, and refurbishing the existing gazebo.
In addition, the team installed new benches and tables, refreshed old playground games and installed fence screens in an effort to uplift the grounds. The ROJ team’s efforts ended with treating the children to delicious Pizza Hut pizzas for lunch.
The Salvation Army Nest Children’s Home, established in 1955 as an orphanage, has provided a home to many Jamaican youngsters over the years.
Since 2018, administrators Keith and Karen Haughton have led the home, which started with only four children. They executed a three-month renovation project to refurbish the facility, reinforcing its mandate to operate as a safe haven for vulnerable children and orphans in Kingston, Jamaica.
Administrator at the home, Captain Karen Haughton, who is affectionately called Grandma by the children, expressed her gratitude to ROJ for extending its service.
“We are forever grateful to ROJ for its continuous support of The Salvation Army Nest Children’s Home. ROJ has collaborated with various initiatives at the home even prior to my tenure, and its efforts have been greatly appreciated by myself and my husband, Captain Keith Haughton.
“The children are always overjoyed because they love Pizza Hut and KFC meals. It is important that we incorporate the children and make them feel valued, and ROJ has always done that. We are happy to have the team again for this year’s initiatives,” she added.
