Man fined $4,000 for carrying ratchet knife
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man was fined $4,000 after he pleaded guilty with explanation for carrying a ratchet knife when he appeared in the Corporate Area Parish Court on Tuesday.
Theadore Washington was charged with carrying an offensive weapon after lawmen searched him and found the ratchet knife.
Appearing before presiding Judge Carlo Mason, who asked if he understood that it is an offence to carry the weapon, Washington explained, “I use it for work, your honour.”
“I know but you have to understand that thief use it for work too,” Judge Mason responded abruptly, before sentencing him to a fine of $4,000 or 10 days in prison.
