Flanker Primary, Howard Cooke Primary seek U-13 semi-final spot
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Former champions Flanker Primary and Howard Cooke Primary will seek to complete the semi-final pairing in the St James Football Association/Victoria Mutual Foundation Under 13 competition when the quarterfinals continue Tuesday morning at WesPow Park.
Flanker Primary and Howard Cooke, both zone winners, will take on Mt Salem Primary and Granville Primary, respectively, with the winners joining defending champions Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Barracks Road Primary, who won Monday’s opening quarter-final games.
Corinaldi Avenue Primary beat Catherine Hall Primary 2-1 while Barracks Road Primary came from a goal down to beat Chetwood Primary by the same margin and advanced to Friday’s semi-finals at the same venue.
On Tuesday, Flanker Primary, last season’s beaten finalists, will seek to return to the semi-finals at the expense of Mt Salem Primary, who were the runners-up in Zone D, winning two games, drawing two and losing another and scoring just seven goals, the least among all eight quarterfinal qualifiers.
Four-time winners Howard Cooke Primary, who won all five games in their first round, will hope to get the better of Granville Primary who edged John Rollings Success Primary for second place in Zone B on goal difference on the final day of the regular season.
On Monday, despite conceding their first goal of the season, in their seventh game, champions Corinaldi Avenue Primary held off Catherine Hall 2-1 to book their place.
Donovan Carey opened the scoring in the 10th minute and Orlando McKenzie doubled the advantage in the 18th minute before Tehron Brissett pulled one back in the 50th minute for Catherine Hall.
Kevin Porter gave Chetwood Primary a surprise lead in the eighth minute before Shamary Blake equalised in the 18th minute for Barracks Road before Shakeem Blake scored the winner in the 24th minute.
