Montego Bay gets The Edge
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay’s Sam Sharpe Square was the place to be on Friday as
The Edge 105.3 FM road tour 2024 rolled into the western city with prizes and surprises, and an undeniable vibe to welcome the weekend.
Popular radio personalities Burgerman, Ron Muschette, Danae, and Deejay Rich Rocc were among the team members who took the crowd on a non-stop journey that began at 10:00 am. The city was ready and waiting.
“Montego Bay has always supported Edge 105 and we saw that in the turnout today [Friday]. We had individuals from the time we started at 10:00 am to the finish,” said Natalie Chin Samuda, deputy managing director at the Jamaica Observer Media Group, which includes
The Edge.
“In fact, we had individuals here from about 9:00 am when we were setting up and they stayed throughout,” she added.
Friday’s whistle-stop in Montego Bay was the third show since the start of the year and the final one across the country for this quarter.
“For the last leg, it’s a really good day out here in Sam Sharpe Square. The vibe was crazy; every hour of the day it’s been people, good vibes, good fun,” said Chin Samuda.
There were similar sentiments shared by popular radio show host Burgerman, who was up to his usual antics leaving people laughing most of the time while he was onstage.
“We did Mandeville, we did St Thomas, but Montego Bay is exceptional. The people come out, the vibe, the energy, we gave it to them,” he quipped.
Fellow radio personality Ron Muschette, who celebrated his birthday on Friday, was also full of praise for the Montego Bay turnout.
“We really locked down MoBay and that is very good, given that we are based in Kingston. It was very well-received and supported by the MoBay people,” he stated.
For Chin Samuda, the event provided an opportunity to learn from the public and engage listeners.
“They’ve stayed here, they’ve enjoyed, they’ve participated, so we just have to big them up. They’ve passed on information to us about what they want to hear, who they want to see. So we’re listening and we are here for them,” she stressed.
Throughout the day, iconic Sam Sharpe Square had people rocking to the latest music, participating in dancing contests, musical chairs, potato race, bun-and-cheese eating contest and happily being on the receiving end of what seemed to be an endless supplies of goodies.
These came from sponsors Cal’s Manufacturing, Master Mac Food Store, Tru Shake, Digicel, JN Money, ATL/BYD Jamaica, and T Geddes Grant which had festive booths on site.
Master Mac has been one of the sponsors that have been a part of the road show since its inception.
“We’ve been with Edge for years. Since the start we are together and we have always been a sponsor of these programmes,” said chief growth officer at Master Mac Group Kaushai Joshi.
“It’s a good opportunity to be with Edge FM and to work with the Observer and the team. It’s been a wonderful crowd and a great response,” he added.
It was hard to miss the sleek BYD Yuan Plus, the latest in electric cars, being offered by ATL/BYD Jamaica. Sales executive at the BYD Montego Bay office Ashley Williams was on hand to field queries.
“Today we got views from those in attendance and, based on our interview that we did earlier, we got questions and there was definitely some interest shown,” she said.
JN Money took the opportunity to hand out JN Money Cards, a money transfer card, as well as information on its latest products.
“Today has been very exciting for us. The turnout has been great; our customers showed up and Montego Bay showed up for us. We had overwhelming support from Montego Bay,” raved sales and marketing specialist for the group Cedrica Reid.
The Cal’s Manufacturing booth was also popular and promotions manager Carol Ivy was thrilled.
“It’s hot, and because of that our tent has been full from morning because we are offering snow cones made with ice and our syrups,” she said.
She lauded Edge 105 for providing the opportunity to interact with customers.
“It gives us a chance to say thank you to our Jamaican family who have been supportive of the brand, because without them there is no us; and so we say thank you,” Ivy added.
Also among the giveaways was a cash prize of US$150 presented to two young girls who wowed the crowd with their dancing skills. The prize was spontaneously donated by a New Orleans resident who gave his name as Eugene.
