KSAFA boss predicts exciting Boys’ Town vs JDF championship final
August Town, Duhaney Park battle for Major League
FORMER Premier League campaigners and defending champions Boys’ Town and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) are set to contest the final of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Wray & Nephew Championship following contrasting semi-final victories on Saturday.
The Collie Smith Drive-based Boys’ Town secured their spot after an exciting 4-1 penalty victory over Olympic Gardens at Constant Spring Sports Complex. Both teams had played to a 0-0 result after full and extra time.
JDF booked their place in the final with a hard-fought, 1-0 win over Constant Spring in the second match of the double-header. Sheldon Ragreir scored the all-important goal for the army men.
The stakes are very high as the winners will advance to the Jamaica Football Federation Tier Two competition.
Meanwhile, August Town and Duhaney Park are in the KSAFA Major League final after identical 2-0 victories over Seaview Gardens and Cooreville Gardens, respectively, at Constant Spring Sports Complex on Friday. Jevaney Johnson and Ika Hudson were the scorers for August Town.
In the other semi-final, Tajay McIntosh and Kemar Reid got the goals for Duhaney Park.
The winners of the Major League will advance to the KSAFA championship next season.
Both finals are scheduled to be played at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Mark Bennett, president of KSAFA, said he is expecting a keenly contested championship final.
“This final is going to be very exciting because we have two well-organised teams with Boys’ Town, who are the defending champions, and they will be playing against the JDF,” said Bennett.
“These are two teams with contrasting styles but they are both well-coached and will be playing against the backdrop of a huge crowd. Boys’ Town will be playing basically in their backyard and so I do believe that the whole army will be coming out to cheer on the marching men from Up Park Camp,” he said.
Bennett stated that he is anticipating the KSAFA Major League final to be just as fascinating.
“We are also expecting a pulsating encounter in the final of the major league competition,” he said.
“Duhaney Park have been a powerhouse in football in the past and they are in a rebuilding phase now. Like Duhaney Park, August Town have played at the highest level before. I am expecting some excellent football from both teams,” Bennett asserted.
