Busta Rhymes to miss Sashi Festival due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’
Rapper Busta Rhymes, who was set to make his grand return to the Sashi Festival in Ocho Rios, St Ann on Saturday night, has confirmed that he will no longer be attending the show.
In a post on his official Instagram page on Saturday afternoon, Busta Rhymes explained that due to “unforeseen circumstances,” his performance would be cancelled. No further explanation was given for the late cancellation, other than the entertainer stating that the matter was beyond his control.
The entertainer’s last appearance at Sashi was some two decades ago. In an interview with the Jamaica Observer following his performance confirmation back in January, Rhymes said he was looking forward to the show.
“Twenty-two years since my last Sashi performance… we are getting ready to embark on the fact that Sashi 2.0 is getting ready to happen in May, my birthday month, May 20 is my birthday, and while celebrating, I will be performing at Sashi 2.0. Jamaica,” the rapper said at the time.
Sashi made its debut in 1999 but was last staged in 2002. At the height of its popularity, the event attracted more than 15,000 patrons, according to a report in Billboard magazine in 2001.
This year, in addition to Rhymes, the festival lineup boasted the likes of R&B sensation Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole, Jadakiss, Valiant, Tifa, 10Tik, and Bounty Killer.
