Tommy Lee Sparta to take over MECA in special ‘orchestra’ performance
KINGSTON Jamaica- The MECA nightclub is set to come alive tonight as dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta initiates a takeover of one of Kingston’s hottest nightclub.
The entertainer is set to perform at an event dubbed ‘Mecaestra’ where he is expected to treat fans to a special performance of dancehall music ‘orchestra’ style.
According to Michael Dawson, chief executive officer of MECA, Mecaestra is “an avant-garde orchestra fused with the Dancehall vibe. So, yes there will be sheet music, a conductor, violins, strings; but then there are the dance moves, moments of ‘patios in opera’ and the magic of Tommy Lee leading a group of bow-tied professional musicians with his unique style.”
Arguing that the performance will be “Jamaican culture at its best,” Dawson said tonight’s performance is perhaps one of Tommy Lee’s most anticipated shows since his release from prison.
“Music aficionados are excited to see the Sparta Boss spreading his wings and gaining new fans on the heels of his sold out show in Africa and the artiste is also excited to indulge in something ‘different’,” he said. “At MECA, we dare to be different. In my opinion (and surely with the number of celebrity guests we attract), we have transformed the night entertainment scene. This performance will just be a testament to the work we’ve been putting in. Showtime is 11:00 pm and we go until 4:00 am so come out and witness something unique. We promise you won’t be disappointed.”
The event is co-produced by Ryan Bailey who has production credits on songs such as Pressure and Lyric by Grammy-winning artiste Koffee. Working with Bailey to pull off the special performance is Keecha Gooch who led a performance of Sizzla, Jessica Yap alongside Sly Dunbar and the late Robbie Shakespeare.
