Aquatic VP proud of artistic swimmers’ success in Florida
ROBYN Chin Sang, vice-president of Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) with responsibility for artistic swimming, has praised the Jamaica United Artistic Swimming Team for their recent outstanding performance on the international stage.
The Jamaica United Artistic Swimming Team competed at the 2024 Worldwide Invitational Meet, held in Coral Springs, Florida, from May 17 to 19 and which saw all 21 athletes securing medals in their respective age group categories.
The team’s impressive haul of 37 medals includes 16 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze medals, with Naimah Renford and Jordayna Thomas shining particularly bright as they won the coveted title of Best Figure in their age category.
The team’s medal count was an improvement from last year’s 25 medals (15 gold, four silver, and six bronze) won by an 18-member team.
The team’s participation in solo, duet, trio, and team routines and in figures categories across various age groups demonstrated their versatility and talent.
Chin Sang said that this remarkable achievement was not only a result of the athletes’ dedication but also the guidance of their expert coaches and the unwavering support of their parents.
“The success of our swimming team over the years can be attributed to the commitment and determination of our athletes, the effective training strategies of our coaches, and the unwavering support of our parents,” Chin Sang told the Jamaica Observer.
“I mean, the athletes put in countless hours of hard work and dedication to achieve their goals. I am extremely proud of all our athletes, who demonstrated total dedication to the rigorous training programme. Their hard work has truly paid off,” She added.
Chin Sang said as the swimmers return to the island they can do so with their heads held high, proudly carrying the Jamaican flag and inspiring a new generation of artistic swimmers.
“We’re looking forward to our next local meet on June 29 which will serve as both our development meet and national trials,” Chin Sang said.
She added: “Following that, we’ll be hosting our annual summer camp. I must say a huge thank you to VM Group for their generous sponsorship support. Their contribution has made a significant impact on our team’s success and we are truly grateful!”
