UPDATE: Cop also injured during confrontation at Freeport lock-up, INDECOM investigating
ST JAMES, Jamaica — The High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says a policeman was also injured during Saturday evening’s shooting incident at the Freeport Police Station lock-up in St James.
The high command provided the update while noting that the matter is now the subject of a formal investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
Therefore, it said, the JCF is constrained in terms of what can be disclosed at this time.
“We await the findings of the INDECOM report to provide a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident,” it said in a statement to the media on Sunday.
Initial reports said two men, who were in custody, had been injured during the altercation. It is alleged that one of them was stabbed before a gun came into play and shots were fired, further injuring both men.
The two were taken to hospital. Their conditions remain unknown.
