Six schoolboys arrested for house breaking in St Elizabeth
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Six schoolboys from a prominent St Elizabeth secondary institution have been taken into police custody in connection with house breaking incidents in the parish.
Head of the St Elizabeth police Superintendent, Coleridge Minto said the boys whose ages range from 13 to 16 were arrested for house breaking on Thursday night in the Malvern police area.
“They were taken in due to an ongoing investigation for house breaking. Eight televisions were recovered at the premises where the raid was conducted,” he said on Friday in Goshen.
“At this time the students are in our custody and the representation is being made at the court to decide whether or not we will grant them bail or remand them. We will continue the investigation and provide the necessary support to these youngsters,” added Minto.
With Friday being celebrated as Children’s Day, Minto said support is being given to schools.
“We will provide the support to our schools. The safe schools programme is very active in this parish. We have been going through a number of the schools working with the deans of discipline, the guidance counselors and even social workers and there are a number of incidents that have been taking the national airwaves over the last couple of weeks. We certainly will from our division provide our community safety and security officers to deploy them into our schools to assist with the behavioural issues and to support the school with their own behavioural modification programmes,” he said.
