California Crown to make it two from two in Monday Morning Trophy
The running of the $1.1-million Monday Morning Trophy, a Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upward (maiden) over 7 furlong (1,400m), is listed as the main event on Sunday’s nine-card.
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at the 11 runners entered and their chances of winning.
1. GLOBAL MACHINE: (3 ch c byHedge Fund – Sprintime Rain) – Finished fourth behind Fearless Attack, Battle Angel, and Lady Lauren over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) on April 28. Although the distance has increased for this race, Global Machine is expected to run well. Note: Figure-8 on.
2.CALIFORNIA CROWN: (3 ch c by Hedge Fund – Dream Big) – Was an impressive winner on debut 22 days ago when putting away rivals by 3 ½ over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) in 1:09.3. With improvement expected and working well, the highly-ratedCalifornia Crown should win again.
3.BUTTERCUP: (3 b f by Conquest Cherimash – Shahar) – Has been struggling to find form and that should continue here. Note: Blinkers on.
4.CHESNEY: (3 ch f by Solomini – El Coyote) – Cannot win this. Note: Visor on.
5.LADY LAUREN: (3 b f by Deputy Glitters – Anna) – Capable runner who came home in third place by 1 ½ lengths behind Fearless Attack and
Bangle Angel over 6 ½ furlongs. Lady Lauren was seen making strong headway in deep stretch and so the extended half-furlong (100m) for this race should suit here well. Expect another bold bid from Lady Lauren here.
6.AMMA: (3 b f by Bern Identity – Blufield) – Was expected to figure in the Thornbird Stakes over 7 furlongs on April 13 but failed to land a blow.
Amma finished in 10th position by 11 lengths behind Banadura.
Amma has been working fairly well coming into this race and as such, an improved effort is expected from her.
7.BOLD MOVE: (3 b c by Sunshine N Shadow – Money Move) – Released the maiden tag over 5 ½ furlongs on May 11.
Bold Move steps up here to compete and based on that impressive 5 ¼-length win, he should not be disgraced here.
8. PLAYFAIR: (3 b c by Sensational Slam – I Am The One) – Has not really done anything since his maiden win over 4 furlongs (800m) on January 1. Playfair is of ability and among these; he should put in a good performance here.
9. UNCLE PECK (USA): (3 b c by Producer – Phantara) – Makes his debut on local soil here.
Uncle Peck has been training well and as such, should run accordingly.
10.DON’T TELL LOU LOU: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Lastochka) – Is going to be left behind in this one.
11.RICHES TO RAGS (USA): (3 ch f by Union Rags – Place des Vosges) – Has faced the starts on seven occasions without a victory. However, Riches to Rags has not finished worst that fourth in those seven outings and is expected to go home in the money once again. Note: Tongue-tie on, figure-8 on.
