Met Service confirms increase in temperatures, says readings circulated on social media ‘misleading’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological Service of Jamaica says it is aware of social media posts circulating which states that over the next few days the country could experience a rise in temperature of five degrees above normal.
The Met Service has since indicated that while the island is experiencing an increase in temperature levels, the reading stated in the social media posts are “misleading.”
In a release on Monday night, the Met Service shared that while the accompanying graphic on the weather report seems to have come from a trusted source, the data indicates higher-than-normal temperatures between one and three degrees and not five as is being circulated.
The Met Service shared that the recent readings remain consistent with temperature levels being experienced over the past few weeks and are in keeping with “elevated global temperatures since the start of the year.”
The weather service is urging Jamaicans to stay hydrated and take steps to remain cool during the hot days.
