Eight farmworkers dead, 45 injured following bus crash in Florida
FLORIDA – Eight persons have been confirmed dead after a bus believed to be carrying migrant farm workers crashed on a state highway in north-central Florida on Tuesday. Forty-five persons have also been injured according to emergency officials.
In an article from CNN, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that approximately 53 farm workers were aboard the bus when it collided with a 2001 Ford Ranger at approximately 6:35 am. The bus then exited the roadway and ran through a fence before overturning.
Authorities believe based on the extent of the damage, the death toll may increase.
“There’s a high probability this may be beyond eight fatalities,” Lieutenant Patrick Riordan of the Florida Highway Patrol said at a news conference at the scene. He revealed that some of the injured were in serious condition.
