The candlelight vigil was not marred
Dear Editor,
I write to clarify some misinformation that has been circulating in the news over the past few days. It has to do with the candlelight vigil for the late People’s National Party (PNP) Councillor Rohan Bryan of the Morant Bay Division.
The candlelight vigil was hosted by his PNP family, and while it was open to all, as patrons gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of a man who was described by all as “showing no semblance of partisanship in the execution of his duties”, what transpired was less than favourable.
A selector at the event usurped the designated master of ceremonies and called some Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) representatives, who had just arrived at the event, on the stage. This move interrupted the flow of the event because tributes were being given at the time of the announcement.
What ensued was that the JLP representatives mounted the stage and refused to take a seat. This added an air of disorganisation because they displaced people who were seated on the platform.
I want to make it clear that the accusations attached to the event are untrue and being spread out of malice. Our late Councillor Bryan was a man of peace, a man who exuded gentleness, and a man of impeccable character. I would like to use this medium to ask those who knew and loved him to cease and desist from spreading misinformation.
Councillor Bryan was never involved in chaos during his lifetime and out of respect for his life and legacy I believe that we should not drag his name through the mud now that he has departed this life.
