Hudson-Smith and Holmes win 400m races at JAI
KINGSTON, Jamaica – World Championships silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain got some measure of revenge as he beat World Champion Antonio Watson to win the men’s 400m A race at Saturday’s inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational at the National Stadium.
Hudson-Smith came into the meet expecting a clash with Watson but the Jamaican got off to a slow start and trailed in a disappointing fourth while Hudson-Smith won the event with a season’s best 44.69 seconds.
American Matthew Boling ran under 45.00 seconds for the first time, taking second with 44.98 seconds and Zandrian Barnes was third in 45.41 seconds.
Bahamian Wendell Miller won the B race in a lifetime best 45.47 seconds, finishing ahead of Deandre Watkin, who was second in 46.04 seconds, and American Will London, third in 46.09 seconds.
Alexis Holmes won the women’s race in a personal best 50.31 seconds, leading home two other Americans – Brittany Brown (51.21 seconds) and Naasha Robinson (51.81 seconds).
