Welcome the EQE SUVMercedes’ first foray into electric
Mercedes-Benz, through its local dealer Silver Star Motors, made its first foray into the electric vehicle (EV) segment with the EQE Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
The EV SUV was revealed on Wednesday, May 1 at the South Camp Road, Kingston, showroom.
Amanda Issa, brand manager, Silver Star Motors, welcomed the introduction of the EQE into the growing automotive all-electric sector.
“Thanks to many years of experience in the field of alternative drive systems, an electrically powered vehicle from Mercedes-Benz offers the usual high quality and reliability paired with innovative technologies and hallmark Mercedes-Benz safety,” she told the media at the launch event.
The EQE is positioned as an all-electric alternative to the petrol powered GLE SUVs. Externally, it bears the face of the Mercedes-EQ line of vehicles called the Black Panel. Since EVs have no need for a front grille, on the EQE it is now a single black panel, with a distinctive pattern utilising the Mercedes-Benz star. In the rear, to further give the EQE its own distinctive styling, the rear lamps link together with the centre rear light strip to form a 3D helix. Both these design elements provide the EQE with an unmistakeable light signature, front and rear.
“The Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles are beautiful. Just take a look at the EQE SUV,” said Issa.
The EQE in 350 4MATIC trim presents 292 horsepower to all four wheels via a lithium-ion battery with 89 kWh of useable capacity. This gives it a range of up to 334 miles. It can charge at 22 kW on AC power and has a maximum of 170 kW for DC fast charging.
Issa stated that there are many benefits to EV ownership, including being friendlier to the environment due to the lack of exhaust emissions, the driveability afforded by instantly available torque, and the lower maintenance cost because of the fewer wear parts.
As the equivalent to a GLE there is plenty of interior space with a focus on driver comfort and luxury.
“These vehicles are equipped with advanced features such as 3D driver’s display, adaptive suspension, and MBUX infotainment system,” she further explained.
The EQE will be followed by the EQS, an all-electric version of the S class sedan.
“We are excited for our customers to experience this exciting line of vehicles,” said Issa.
