Face-to-face classes resume at Exchange All Age following freak storm
ST ANN, Jamaica — Face-to-face classes resumed at the Exchange All-Age in Ocho Rios St Ann, Monday morning following a freak storm last Wednesday.
Last week, damage to a section of the roof of the Grade 2 block as well as to power lines resulted in classes being moved to the online modality for two days.
A massive clean up activity was conducted at the school over the past few days.
Principal Ricardo Moncrieffe said, up to last evening, work to address the electrical issues were still being done.
He said once this was completed school would have been reopened Monday morning.
“We were speaking to parents, and they were anxiously awaiting the reopening of school… once we would have restored the electricity. The power is the most critical thing that we are facing…by God’s help I am certain that we will be able to restore the power,” Moncrieffe said.
Meanwhile, he said while an official estimate has not been arrived at, based on his calculations, damage sustained is approximated at $1.5 million.
Moncrieffe said various stakeholders are involved in the repair process.
“This work has been supported by the Councillor Mr Ian Isaacs, Sandals Foundation, Minister Matthew Samuda and other members of the business community. We are still awaiting a fullsome assessment, we have not managed to get a finalised assessment just yet. We are seeing where it will fall somewhere in the tune of maybe 1.5 million dollars,” the principal said.
The school administration confirmed that face-to-face classes resumed Monday.
