Dymond makes gospel recording debut with ‘Si Me Yah’
Most artistes who step into a recording booth for the first time experience some jitters. That is exactly how gospel deejay Dymond felt when she recently recorded Si Me Yah.
Produced by George “Brotha George” Wright, it hears the New York-based artiste trying to win souls for the Lord with a hardcore dancehall delivery.
“I think this song speaks volumes, not only to Christians. Others can gravitate to its message,” Dymond told Observer Online.
She said nerves came into play before and during recording Si Me Yah, but “it worked out” with the guidance of Brotha George on whose Brotha George Music label the song is being released.
Getting to express her religious beliefs on record is a personal achievement for Dymond, whose given name is Stephanie Brown.
“I look to God for everything in my life. I cannot, under any circumstances, turn away from God,” she said.
From Rockfort in east Kingston, Dymond recalls being raised by parents who were believers. Musically, she was drawn to the music of CeCe Winans and was eager to record songs but that dream was not realised until two weeks ago.
A stalwart of the contemporary gospel reggae scene in the tri-state area, Brotha George began his career as a secular act in Jamaica during the late 1970s. His latest album, Firm And Strong, was released in June.
