Dacres among throwers to compete in the US today
JAMAICAN throwers Fedrick Dacres, Adrienne Adams, Lloydricia Cameron and Nayoka Clunis will hope to improve on their performances at Thursday’s Tuscon Elite Classic at University of Arizona when they line up at the USA Tack and Field Throws Festival at the same venue today.
Dacres, who is seeking to become the fourth Jamaican man to attain the qualifying standard for the Paris Olympics, had won the men’s discus on Thursday.
Clunis continued her gradual improvement with a season’s best 70.76m in the women’s hammer throw, while Cameron and Adams got close to their season-best performances.
Also, national shot put champions Danniel Thomas-Dodd and Rajindra Campbell, who have both qualified for the Olympics, as well as high jumpers Kimberly Williams and Lushane Wilson, are set to be in competition.
In the men’s shot put former Titchfield High thrower Moses Parkinson will join Campbell in the men’s shot put while Thomas-Dodd and Cameron will contest the women’s event.
On Thursday Dacres, who has a season-best 64.94m, threw 63.79m in the men’s discus. Cameron was second in the women’s shot put with 17.70m, just off her season’s best 17.73m. Danielle Sloley placed eighth with 15.39m. Adams threw 54.85m in the women’s discus throw.
