Racing United qualify for JFF Championship semis
Racing United are the first team through to the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Championships with five rounds of matches still to be played in the first round after they improved to 49 points with a 2-0 win over second place Tru-Juice FC on Saturday.
Racing United are on course to top the points tables for the second-straight year and are 12 points ahead of Tru-Juice FC- 37 points with four teams separated by one point; three teams, Chapelton Maroons, Reno FC, and Baptist Alliance all tied on 31 points and separated by goal-difference.
Brown’s Town FC are also in the running for a semi-final spot on 30 points.
Diamond Clarke scored in the first minute to give Racing the lead and Raheem Edwards added a second in the 85th minute as the leaders beat Tru-Juice for a second time this season after taking the first-round game 3-1 at Prison Oval.
Chapelton Maroons are third on goal difference of 13 after a big 8-1 win over St Bess United at Turners Field in Chapleton with doubles from Rashaun Linton and Neshawn Bennett, while Tramain Graham, Rajay Wright, Assarney Fuller, and Tyrese Henry all got on the scoresheet.
Reno FC are next after their 2-0 win over Gray’s Inn SC with Jashane Foster in the 27th minute and Jeremy Coke in time added on at the end of the second half.
Baptist Alliance are also on 31 points after Tamar Francis scored two late goals to give them a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Falmouth United at Elleston Wakeland Centre.
Shaunavan McKenzie gave Falmouth United the lead in the 21st minute and the home team held on until the 67th minute when Richard Allison drew Baptist Alliance level.
Francis then scored in the 76th and 81st minutes as Baptist Alliance raced to a 3-1 lead before Ce-Aundre Hay pulled one back for Falmouth United.
Brown’s Town stayed in touch despite a 0-0 draw with Meadforest FC at Drax Hall, while Faulkland FC blanked Portlanders FC 2-0 with goals from Mikhail Samuels in the third minute and Oshane Russell in the 12th minute.
