Tourism earnings up almost 10 per cent in 2023/24 – Bartlett
KINGSTON, Jamaica- Jamaica’s tourism sector continued to chalk up record performances during the just-concluded fiscal year, 2023/24, with gross earnings projected to reach US$4.38 billion, an increase of 9.6 per cent when compared with the previous year.
At the same time, stopover arrivals are estimated at 2.96 million, reflecting a 9.4 per cent increase, while cruise arrivals are expected to reach 1.34 million, up by 9 per cent from the previous period in 2022/23.
Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett provided the update on Tuesday as he opened the 2024/25 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.
He shared that in 2023, Jamaica’s principal airports in Kingston and Montego Bay also saw impressive growth, collectively generating revenue of US$200.28 million or J$30 billion.
“This revenue surge coincided with a record-breaking 6.96 million passengers traversing these facilities. Most of these earnings stemmed from MBJ Airports Limited, the operator of Sangster International Airport,” Bartlett noted.
