Raddesh Roman with five-star performance at Caymanas
Title-chasing jockey Raddesh ‘’Sneaky Fox’’ Roman’s outstanding form in the saddle continued when he booted home five winners to highlight Sunday’s 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
Roman’s winners included a bold front-running effort aboard Get A Pepsi in the $1.25-million Temperence Oaks Trophy feature, a Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over six and a half furlongs (1,300m).
Get A Pepsi, owned by Jacqueline Ebanks Clarke and Aqulla Ottey, and trained by Errol Burke, turned on the pressure in the drive to easily beat rivals by four lengths going at the wire.
Get A Pepsi (Blue Pepsi Lodge – Getupstandup) won ahead of All For Love (Omar Walker) and Justin Biden (Oshane Nugent) in a time of 1:21.4 (24.0 x 48.4 x 1:14.3).
Roman’s other winners on the day were Jaxson in the second race for trainer Michael Marlowe, Prince Amaan in the fourth race for trainer Anthony Nunes, KD Strong in the eighth race for trainer Gary Subratie, and Speedie Hare in the ninth race for trainer Carlton Cunningham. The win aboard KD Strong was a chance ride for Roman as the initial rider Robert Halledeen was down for the day.
With those winners, Roman took his tally for the season to 37 winners, nine wins behind leader Tevin Foster, who is on 46 winners. Foster had one winner on
Cosmic Force for trainer Ryan Darby in the day’s sixth event.
Get A Pepsi was the second winner on the card for Burke as he had earlier saddled Baton Rouge (Jawani Forbes) in the fifth race.
Racing continues at the weekend with the final major preparation races on the “Road to the Triple Crown”. Saturday’s race meet will feature The Portmore (for fillies only), while The Kingston (for colts and geldings) will take place on Sunday.
