Jaydon Hibbert makes winning return to competition
Jaydon Hibbert made a winning return to competition Sunday as he won the men’s triple jump at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet at Flora Duffy Stadium in Devonshire.
Hibbert won with a wind-aided 17.33m (4.3m/s).
In his first professional outing and first meet since last August’s World Championships, where he suffered an injury in the first round of the final, Hibbert jumped over 17.00m in both of his two attempts – which he did off a shortened approach of just eight steps.
Jordan Scott was third with 17.05m (3.8m/s).
There were two other Jamaican winners: Shiann Salmon won the women’s 400m hurdles while Stacey Ann Williams took the women’s 400m.
Salmon came from behind to win in 56.59 seconds with Sanique Walker placing seventh in 1:01.06.
Williams clocked 51.71 seconds, almost a full second off her season’s best, Junelle Brumfield was fifth in 54.09 seconds and hurdles specialist Rushell Clayton was sixth in 54.48 seconds.
Chanice Porter was second in the women’s long jump with a wind-aided 6.62m (3.9m/s), while national champion Tissanna Hickling was fifth with 6.33m (4.7m/s).
First year professional Alana Reid finished third in the women’s 100m in a wind-aided 11.29 seconds (2.2m/s), just ahead of Kemba Nelson, who clocked 11.30 seconds.
Yanique Thompson placed third in the 100m hurdles in 12.86 seconds (3.4m/s) and her training partner Demish Gaye was also third in the men’s 400m in 47.15 seconds.
Ashanti Moore was third in the women’s 200m in 23.12 seconds (3.0m/s) while Kadrian Goldson was sixth in the men’s 100m in 10.16 seconds (3.0m/s).
