Jamaica’s men win 4x100m at Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, USA – Jamaica won the men’s 4x100m relay on Saturday at the 128th Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
The 4×100 men were the only team of the four Jamaican senior relay teams that competed in the Olympic Development section of the event to come away with a win on the final day of the relay carnival. The Jamaican teams were comprised of mostly local-based athletes, a few of who will be on the team to the World Athletics Relays set for the Bahamas next weekend.
The quartet of Oshane Bailey, Tyquendo Tracey, Ramone Barnswell and Sandrey Davidson clocked 39.59 seconds to finish ahead of Ghana (39.71 seconds) and Garden State Track Club (40.14 seconds).
The women’s team were however upset by Spain who ran 43.97 seconds with the Jamaican team of Jodean Williams, Yanique Dayle, Ramona Burchell and Shockoria Wallace clocking 44.11 seconds.
The Jamaican men’s 4x400m team placed third behind Portugal (3:05.97) and Spain (3:06.68 seconds) with the team of Assine Wilson, Malike James-King, Terry Thomas and Anthony Cox clocking 3:07.54.
There were some successes in the 400m races as Leah Anderson won the Olympic Development Women’s 400m Elite in 52.48 seconds. Ashley Williams was second with 52.70 seconds, Tovea Jenkins placed fourth with 52.96 seconds, Roneisha McGregor was fifth with 53.75 seconds and Ronda Whyte sixth in 55.97 seconds.
Karayme Bartley won the Olympic Development Men’s 400m Elite with 46.43 seconds while Javon Francis was sixth in 47.28 seconds.
Two-time World Championship representative Navasky Anderson was third in the Olympic Development Men’s 800m Elite in 1:47.58.
