Marc Chin makes début at Yesterday
Popular retro party series Wray & Nephew Yesterday — The Best of the 90s makes its return to the party scene for its first staging for the year on Saturday night at Mas Camp.
Veterans DJ Kurt Riley and DJ Marvin, alongside the young gun Marc Chin of Coppershot Music, will take patrons on a musical journey to relive the hits of yesteryear.
This is the first time that Chin will be showcasing his musical artistry at the event.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer earlier this week, Chin, the son of music industry veteran Ricky Chin, shared his reaction when he was contacted to be a part of the event’s line-up.
“I was elated! That’s probably putting it lightly, because as one of the premier retro parties in Jamaica, which I used to be a patron at, it was like a match made in heaven to be a part of the entertainment line-up,” said Chin.
He continued: “You can expect the Coppershot vibes — all energy and dancing non-stop.”
The disc jock says he grew up on retro music.
“I am a huge fan of old school music. It’s the music that I grew up on and the nostalgia of going to parties back when I was in high school. Retro events help me to musically travel back in time,” Chin shared.
He lists Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul, Scare Dem Crew among his favourite artistes of the 1990s.
Asked how his passion for music developed, Chin said: “I believe it was greatly influenced by my household growing up, and then that blossomed into me developing an appreciation for the art of DJ-ing from as early as high school. That has now transcended into modern day Marc Chin from Coppershot.”
Chin, who has a Bachelor of Science in International relations from The University of the West Indies, Mona, has been a member of the award-winning Coppershot Sound since 2003.
“Outside of music, I’m a full-time family man, as well as a realtor associate and sales/ marketing manager at D C Tavares & Finson Realty,” said Chin.
Yesterday Best of the 90s has been providing patrons with timeless music while dancing their troubles away for the past 22 years.
Gyete Ghartey, the event’s promoter, added: “Delivering good customer service is what we guarantee. Our patrons tell us what they require and we try to make it happen. We always listen to our customers, and this staging is no different. Patrons can expect a night filled with memories, while dancing with your friends or your loved ones.”
