16-y-o student killed in Westmoreland attack identified
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— The Westmoreland police have identified the 16-year-old male student who was chased and brutally killed by unknown assailants as he left school on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Carson Barrett of Top Lincoln in Grange Hill in the parish.
Barrett’s 15-year-old schoolmate was also shot and injured in the daylight attack. Her injuries are not considered life threatening, the police said.
According to lawmen, the schoolboy’s killing appeared to be gang-related.
Reports from the police are that Barrett and the female had just left school and were walking along the roadway when they were pounced upon by two suspects travelling on a motorcycle.
The motorcycle came to a stop and the pillion is said to have disembarked the bike with a gun in his hand and opened gunfire at both teens, who ran in different directions.
Barrett reportedly ran off in the direction of the Monument located at the entrance of Belle Isle Road and was chased by the pillion, who continued to fire gunshots at him. The teen later collapsed on the roadway.
Observer Online understands that the police were alerted and upon their arrival, Barrett was found lying face down in a pool of blood suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Meanwhile, the injured female student ran back to her school, where she sought refuge. She was assisted by teachers to the hospital and was admitted in serious but stable condition.
