16-y-o student killed in Grange Hill was target of attack, says Westmoreland top cop
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— Superintendent of Police (SP), Othniel Dobson, says an investigation into the shooting death of the 16-year-old boy and the injuring of the 15-year-old girl on Thursday in Grange Hill, Westmoreland has revealed that the male student was the target of the attack.
According to Dobson, the incident appeared to be gang-related. He added that there have been a number of criminal activities in the Grange Hill police area.
The Westmoreland Commanding Officer also informed that the investigators attached to the case are following strong leads, and urged residents with information to come forward.
“This incident is a continuation of gang activities affecting the Grange Hill police area. The investigators are working on strong leads and we are confident that we will find the perpetrators,” Dobson said.
“I am using this medium to urge persons with information on this incident, or any other incidents affecting the Grange Hill police area, to pass this information to the police,” he added.
The incident, which happened about 4:50 on Thursday, resulted in the closure of businesses in the area around 7 pm after an Observer Online reporter witnessed police driving around with a town crier ordering that they “close up, close up!”

The identity of the deceased student is still unknown.
