New St James police head to oversee increased use of technology in crime-fighting
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Recently-promoted commander of the St James Police Division, Acting Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Eron Samuels has promised to intensify the use of technology to assist in crime-fighting and the monitoring of team members.
“We want to ensure that we increase the amount of technology that we use to aid crime fighting and to aid in the customer service procedures that we have. We are in the process of building out our monitoring room that will see us having access to the Jamaica Eye monitoring and tracking our vehicles so that we can improve the response times to incidents and to also ensure that the police officers are where we mandate that they should be,” SSP Samuels said.
“We want to ensure that St James has the cutting edge technology being used. Most times you have Kingston and the other divisions being given that focus but we want to ensure that we start here,” Samuels added.
The senior cop was the guest speaker at the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (MBCCI) meeting held at the Meeting Room at Harbour City Shopping Mall in Montego Bay, St James last week.
President of the MBCCI, Oral Heaven assured Samuels that the business community stands ready to assist the police.
“The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry stands ready to support and collaborate with the police force in addressing these needs and working towards a safer and more secure environment for residents and visitors in our parish,” Heaven said.
“We look forward to a productive partnership and ongoing dialogue to strengthen the relationship between the business community and law enforcement agencies in our parish. And I am confident that together we can create a safer and more prosperous St James for us all,” he added.
