Racing United seek to rebound from loss in JFF Championship
LEADERS Racing United will hope to rebound from last weekend’s loss to Reno FC when they play away to third-placed Chapelton Maroons at Turners Field for their Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Championship return-round game today.
Racing United lost only for the second time in 16 games but will hope to rebound with a win over Chapelton Maroons who they had beaten 3-1 in the first round.
The St Catherine-based Racing United leads the points tables with 40 points, three more than Tru-Juice FC who are at Brown’s Town FC, with Chapelton and Baptist Alliance both on 27 points, one more than Brown’s Town FC.
Racing United were edged 1-0 by Reno FC, a reversal of their first-round scores, and it was the first time they had not scored at least one goal in a game all season.
Today Javaughn Cole, Raheen Edwards, Diamond Clarke, and Nickyle Ellis, who have combined to score 28 of Racing United’s 50 goals so far, will hope to get their team back to winning ways.
Maroons, who were relegated to the Championships after just one season in the Jamaica Premier League, were resting last week and will hope to spring a surprise at home over Racing United as they seek a third-straight win.
Tru-Juice FC, who are coming off a 3-1 win over Falmouth United, will play away to Brown’s Town who they had edged 1-0 in the first round, and they are hoping to stay in close range of the leaders.
Baptist Alliance, who have drawn and lost in their last two games, could move into the top three with a win over Meadforest FC and anything but a win for Chapelton Maroons.
Reno FC are unbeaten in their last six games and will be confident — after their win last weekend — when they take on former winners Faulkland FC in a western derby at Llandilo.
The first meeting between the two teams this season had ended in a 2-2 draw, and Reno FC will hope to use home field advantage against Faulkland FC who have not won any of their last four away games.
Falmouth United and Petersfield FC will meet in another western derby but both are struggling near the foot of the points tables and will desperately need three points.
Petersfield FC have drawn their last three games by 0-0 draws — after an upset 1-0 win over Tru-Juice — and will need to score goals today to get a positive result.
