From the heart…
Blaize Shell Shell drops album, second book
The feedback from the first book he authored in 2021 — The Power of Pain: My Pain, My Breakthrough — was the motivation for dancehall recording artiste Blaize Shell Shell to pen the follow-up titled The Power of Pain: Broken to be Restored.
This instalment was released on March 27, the same day he launched his début album
Dancehall Untrapped.
“My first book was written about childhood trauma and growing up feeling neglected. And now my second book speaks about how God just broke me. Everything I lost spiritually, financially, and mentally. I’ve been through a lot, but God was just preparing me for success. Success unprepared is just as detrimental as poverty,” Blaize Shell Shell stated in an interview with the Jamaica Observer’s Splash at his launch event at Janga’s Soundbar in New Kingston.
Said Blaize Shell Shell: “The response to the first book was good. A few people came up to me and told me that it inspired their lives. Others told me that they read it and cried. The second book, the message is “delay doesn’t mean derived, and sometimes it’s a change in the mindset”.
On the 11-track Dancehall Untrapped, Blaize Shell Shell worked with producer Panta Son.
The project is executive produced by Trailblazing Entertainment.
“Working on the album, it was sometimes tiring and exciting. I’m really not fond of the messages that trap dancehall brings forward — the chopping and the negative stuff. I’m trying to show them that we can hold a vibe and mek people enjoy themselves, but keep the message clean and positive,” Blaize Shell Shell shared.
Tracks featured on Dancehall Untrapped include For Me, Got This, Reflections, and
What Colour is God.
During the launch of his album, Blaize Shell Shell got the support from several members of the entertainment fraternity who came out in their numbers. They include singer Tanya Stephens, Christopher Martin and D’Yani.
Bling Dawg, Marcy Chin, and Kyodie performed prior to Blaize Shell Shell taking the stage.
Born Andrew Folkes, Blaize Shell Shell emerged on the music scene in 2006. A former student at Clarendon College and Excelsior High School, he is originally from the community of Rhymesbury in Clarendon.
