An unlikely collab
Apostle Shavon Lawrence, singjay John Braithwaite In Love With Jesus
Gospel artiste Apostle Shavon Lawerence has teamed up with fast-rising sinjay John Braithwaite on the track In Love With Jesus.
Produced by Dinesty King Muzik and officially released on April 12, the song has been dubbed an unlikely collaboration by many listeners.
“The feedback has been very positive. Many people have reached out to me, saying that it is a certified hit. They expressed that the lyrics of the song are relatable, and it will have the Christians dancing,” Lawrence told the Jamaica Observer’s Splash.
She also described the link between herself and Braithwaite as a spiritual blessing. She explained that at the time she decided to get him involved, she felt the song needed “something smooth”.
“John has a melodic Usher Raymond voice. He has smooth vocals and sensual ballads that I think really gave the track a boost that was needed. The first time I heard him sing I said to my husband, ‘Wow, he sounds great! We need to collaborate with him and with a talent like that he needs to be publicised,’ “ she said.
Lawerence is a past student of Jonathan Grant High School in Spanish Town, St Catherine. She is a minister and one of the founders at Refuge Kingdom Deliverance Ministry also located in Spanish Town.
Though initially reluctant to collaborate with the singjay, Lawrence noted that she chose to reserve judgement.
“Because of his physical appearance, at first I was hesitant to work with him. Seeing that he has a lot of tattoos on his body and braided his hair. But God visioned me to go ahead and do it. He showed me that John has a pure and clean heart, and that overpowers everything. I was reminded by Samuel 16:7, which showcases that the Lord does not look at things people look at. People look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart,” she said.
Braithwaite is a barber at Portmore Mall, Block B, where his customers and colleagues refer to him as Usher. He shared that the song has a strong message aimed at Christians to worship the Lord more confidently, and that they should feel proud of their faith identity.
“It has a strong message sending out to all Christians: Have no fear to worship God. It also highlights that it does not matter where you are from or your financial situation; God wants you to be part of the Kingdom,” he told Splash.
