Cedricka Williams break NJCAA discus record
Former Holmwood Technical and Jamaica junior representative Cedricka Williams was named the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) athlete of the week for breaking the women’s discus record with a throw of 57.57m to win the event at the Wichita State KT Woodman Classic on
Saturday.
Williams of Baron Community College, the national junior record holder with a personal best of 57.84m, broke the NJCAA Division 1 record of 56.51m set in 2022 by Princess Kara of Central Arizona College and also bettered her college best 55.39m, set two weeks before.
Williams, who won the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships Class One girls’ discus throw title last year, broke the ‘Juco’ record by more than a metre, two weeks after she broke the Barton CC record 53.15m that was set by another Jamaican, Marie Forbes, in 2019.
A week ago, another Jamaican, Maricia Spence of Angelo State, had been named NJCAA national athlete of the week after she tallied 5,791 points in the heptathlon at David Noble Relays as she climbed up to seventh all time on the NJCAA Division II all-time rankings.
Among the highlights of her seven-event discipline were a personal best 6.22m in the long jump and 13.62 seconds in the 100m hurdles, as well as running a leg on her school’s 4x100m relay team that clocked 45.37s.
