NWC reverses charges
Dear Claudienne,
I am reaching out to you with regards to a long-standing matter with the National Water Commission (NWC). I am attaching a series of correspondence with the NWC, including bills for the residence. I have also engaged attorneys for this matter and I am attaching the information sent to them as well.
I summarise the matter as follows:
In March 2023, following a meter replacement, I started receiving bills ranging from $500,000 to $600,000 from the NWC. I reported the matter and several inspections followed in July 2023, October 2023, and February 2024.
Following the last inspection, NWC had called and advised me in early March 2024 that the $3.1 million would have been written off. However, to date, March 20, 2024, I have received no formal notification for the restoration of water to my property from the NWC. No meter is at the premises and no water can be accessed. The impact of this matter on my family has been significant. It is preventing me from residing at my property or renting it.
I am incurring financial losses of more than US$1,600 per month plus interest. As I am unemployed currently, the impact is detrimental to the survival of my family.
Another contention that I have with the NWC is the millions of taxpayers’ dollars that they are giving away once these claims are successful.
Any assistance you can give to resolve this matter will be greatly appreciated.
MG
Dear MG,
In response to a Tell Claudienne query to the NWC about your concerns, on March 22, 2024, Phillipa Campbell-Francis, acting vice president of the NWC, sent the column the following e-mail:
“This matter has been settled and I have personally communicated same to the customer. The account at the time we spoke was not yet reflecting the adjustment, but Mr Lawrence will update further on this and will also address the matter of having the supply reconnected.”
You told Tell Claudienne on Wednesday April 10, 2024 that the matter has been settled. You said that the NWC restored water supply to your property at the end of March.
We wish you all the best.
