Circuit racing: And they’re off!
The 2024 Jamaican circuit racing season got off to its traditional Easter Monday start at Dover Raceway as the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC) hosted the Carnival of Speed at the iconic St Ann track on April 1.
In the Super Street Turbo class Vijay Bowla was the dominant name winning two of the three races. Jonathan Addison was the only other driver to enjoy the top step of the podium in the class.
In Super Street Naturally Aspirated it was the same for Robert Murray and Sashaun Falloon. Murray taking two of three race victories and Falloon the other lone winner.
Things weren’t as cut and dry in the higher classes as drivers pressed for the early advantage over rivals. Improved Production Class 1 has three different victors — Ricardo Clarke, Robert Murray, and Terome Marshall. It was a similar situation in Improved Production Class 3 as all three races went to Jody Gibson, Sebastian Rae, and Sheldon Morgan each. Improved Production Class 2 went the way of John Steele, who managed two race wins to the single of Charles Phillipps.
Several of the Improved Production class drivers pulled double duty in the various Modified Production classes. Ricardo Clarke pulled a hat-trick in Modified Production Class 1. It was two to one in Modified Production Class 2 in favour of Nazario Barrett over Charles Phillipps. Oliver Townsend put on a thrilling performance in Modified Production Class 3 to gain the edge of class rival Lamar Larmond. Townsend went home with two class wins to Larmond’s one. Sara Misir was the top driver in Modified Production Class 4, winning two of the three races. Alan Gordon took one Modified Production Class 4 win.
For the two-wheel speed fans the Motorcycle Exhibition Class B races were all won by Manare Edwards, while Danielle David won two of the three Motorcycle Exhibition Class A races. McShane Heslop won the third.
