Ruffling Feathers
Word on the streets is that the GenXS Xengsu costume ruled the road Carnival Sunday!
The stunning creation designed by Trinibagonian Douglas John was a hit among soca stylistas who admitted they opted for the costume because they knew the gold bodice, and yellow, pink, black, orange plumes would make for bomb photos and reels!
Mentored by his Mas-making parents and under the tutelage of industry icons like Roland St George and Peter Minshall, John made his debut at 16 years old. Known as The Feather Guru, he has created costumes for Trinidadian rap superstar Nicki Minaj, model Amber Rose, and several Miss Universe contestants. His body of work extends beyond ‘Mas, and includes projects with Disney and Macy’s.
