Tyler Mason wins sprint hurdles at Miramar Invitational
Tyler Mason was the only Jamaican winner at Saturday’s Miramar Invitational in Florida, winning the 110m hurdles in 13.57 seconds (-1.5m/s) in his outdoor season opener.
Mason just held off American Eric Edwards (13.60 seconds) and Great Britain’s Andre Pozzi (13.63 seconds) while Orlando Bennett was fifth in 13.72 seconds.
Demisha Roswell was sixth in the 100m hurdles in a season’s best 13.03 seconds (-1.3m/s) while Amoi Brown was seventh in 13.15 seconds.
World Indoor 400m bronze medallist Rusheen McDonald was third in the men’s 200m, running 21.09 seconds (-2.8m/s) behind Americans Kenny Bednarek (20.35 seconds) and Christian Coleman (20.45 seconds). Ryiem Forde was fourth in 21.19 seconds.
Danniel Thomas-Dodd was also third in the women’s shot put with a best of 18.72m and Lloydricia Cameron seventh with a season’s best 17.21m. American Chase Jackson set a meet record 19.88m.
The 2019 World Champion, Tajay Gayle was fourth in the men’s long jump with 7.60m (-1.2m/s) while Chrissann Gordon-Powell ran a personal best 1:27.90 for fourth in the women’s 600m, beating her previous 1:28.28. The time moved Gordon-Powell one spot up to sixth on the all-time Jamaican ranking above Cathy-Rattray-Williams’ 1:28.07.
