Shericka Jackson to make season debut in Florida
Reigning world 200m champion Shericka Jackson is among several Jamaican star athletes set to make their season debut at the Miramar Invitational meet in South Florida.
The 29-year-old Jackson is slated to compete in the women’s 200m, lining up against compatriot Natalliah Whyte, Sada Williams of Barbados, Kynnedy Flannel of the United States, and Anthonique Strachan of The Bahamas.
Jackson, who is the second fastest woman alive in the 200m with a time of 21.45 seconds, is coached by Paul Francis at the MVP Track Club.
Freshly-minted world indoors 60m bronze medallist Ackeem Blake of Jamaica is set to compete in the men’s 100m event, alongside compatriots Yohan Blake, Michael Campbell, and Andre Ewars. They will be joined in the event by Americans Ronnie Baker, Dorian Carmel, Demek Kemp, Desmond Jackson, Aaron Brown of Canada is also down to compete in the 100m sprint.
The women’s 100m event is expected to be a thrilling contest as it will feature Jamaica’s junior record holder Alana Reid, who is set to make her season debut at the meet. She is to face a host of her country women, including the Clayton twins Tina and Tia, along with Shashalee Forbes, Natasha Morrison, Kasheika Cameron, and Shockoria Wallace. They are to be joined in the event by Americans English Gardner, Melissa Jefferson, Alaysha Johnson, and Lauren Williams-Rain.
Janieve Russell of Jamaica is set to compete in the women’s 400m, while compatriot Rusheen McDonald is set to contest the men’s equivalent. Ackera Nugent, Amoi Brown, and Demisha Roswell are to run in the women’s 100m hurdles event. Orlando Bennett and Tyler Mason are down to compete in the men’s 110m hurdles, while Tajay Gayle is to contest the men’s long jump competition.
