New champion to be crowned in Portland Western Union Major League
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — A new champion is to be crowned Saturday at Carder Park in the Portland Football Association Western Union Major League when former winners Ujama Community Club and Progressive Football Club meet in the final which starts 8:00 pm.
Ujama CC knocked out defending champions WiFi United 4-2 on aggregate in the two-legged semi-final. Ujama won each leg 2-1.
Progressive got by Manchioneal in the same manner, winning both legs 2-1 for a 4-2 triumph on aggregate.
Both teams met twice in the competition this season. Progressive won three-nil in their opening clash, but Ujama rebounded to earn a two-nil victory in the return fixture, leaving both teams with a score to settle tonight.
The Rasheik Miller-coached Ujama should be on a high and will be depending on leading goalscorers Shevon Miller and Roshane Thomas, with six goals each.
The Peter Peart-coached Progressive have defender O’Neil Bryan and custodian Demar Edgehill to ward off the attacks and hopefully give them another lien on the title. Peart will be depending on leading striker Daejon Johnson (five goals) to penetrate Ujama’s defensive set-up which features Tevonne Miller and custodian Maurice Johnson.
In the curtain-raiser on the day, WiFi United are set to battle Progressive FC in the Portland FA Under-15 final, starting at 5:00 pm.
